Discover what's blocking your agency's growth

Growing a digital agency has been tough for a while now. In fact, the last great growth year for the industry was way back in 2021. The good news is that even in a tough market, there's a small pocket of firms that have been able to grow substantially faster than average each year. We analyzed what lets them do this and we've distilled it down into a repeatable process.

Agency Potential Estimator

Sustainable growth is valuable

Most agency leaders already have a solid sense of what's off, but blind spots can easily derail growth goals. When those blind spots aren't addressed, teams can spend months or years fixing the problem.

This service finds those blind spots, evaluates how important each is, and provides a research-backed action plan to solve them.

How we calculated this
Baselines: archetype growth rates (Blended 5%, Marketing 6%, Dev 10%, Design 15%) are 2025 averages from the 2026 State of Digital Services. Incremental gross profit uses a flat 35% project margin (industry avg from the same report). This reflects gross margin on net-new revenue, not full net margin, since incremental wins don't absorb new overhead. Cohort revenue baselines use midpoint FTE × industry rev/FTE, adjusted by archetype (Blended $167K, Marketing $163K, Design $161K, Dev $120K per FTE). Maturity multipliers draw from Repeatable Revgen for Digital Agencies. Payback timing is cycle-adjusted using How Digital Agencies Grow (industry avg 4.4 months to close, increasing with target client size); revenue beyond month 36 is truncated. Tenure compounding draws from Maximizing Lifetime Value (42% of agencies hold clients 2+ years; 30% hold them 3+). Modifier values reflect ideal execution our work unlocks, not observed industry averages. Uplift curve is scaled by a 0.85 implementation factor to reflect real-world partial implementation. Incremental gross profit is discounted at 10% per year to present value. This calculator is provided for illustrative purposes only and does not constitute a guarantee of results. Figures are directional estimates and actual outcomes will vary by implementation depth, market conditions, and team execution. The full amount is due in advance via ACH or credit card (additional fees may apply). Non-refundable. Most agencies complete this introductory service before beginning larger strategy engagements.

Methodology & Fees

Engagement Fees

Small (10-24 FTEs) - $4,300

Medium (25-49 FTEs) - $5,900

Large (50-249 FTEs) - $9,100*

Enterprise (250+ FTEs) - $18,700*

We built this process to catch the things a sales audit or a quick consult would miss. Here's what's behind the findings you get.

Structured surveys Every leader fills out a survey before we talk. It covers the quantitative stuff across all the functions we evaluate, so we're working from real numbers, not impressions.

Separate interviews We talk to each revenue leader one-on-one. Doing these separately is deliberate. It's how we spot alignment gaps, which is one of the most common blockers we find.

Benchmarking against real peers When we tell you something's off, we can show you what similar agencies look like. Size, service mix, and growth stage all factor in. There aren't any generic practices being applied to situations where they don't fit.

Cross-functional evaluation Most diagnostics look at sales, then marketing, then AM as separate problems. Growth problems usually live in the seams between functions. We analyze those connections specifically because that's where the real issues tend to hide.

*Note: Larger or more complex engagements will take longer than three weeks to complete and pricing will be updated to reflect complexity. Engagement fees are due in advance via ACH or credit card (additional fees may apply) and are non-refundable.

Growing Agencies Achieve More

Growth unlocks options

M&A

Growth opens up M&A opportunities on both the buy and sell sides.  Faster-growing agencies sell for more, and they can also generate more cash to buy other agencies more easily.

AI Leaders

Faster-growing agencies have more resources to devote to new tech like AI. This acts like a flywheel; when they become more advanced than their peers, they naturally find growth easier.

Owner Operator

Growth creates opportunities to bring on additional talent and experts to run the agency while founders focus on higher-value strategic initiatives.

Organizational Stability

When growth is consistent, the organization as a whole can become more stable. Stability and predictability go hand in hand. The ability to accurately forecast future performance means the difference between fighting fires and reliable growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much time will this require from our team?

Plan on roughly three hours of leadership time, per leader, across the engagement. That covers the kickoff call, individual leader interviews, a brief survey, and the final review session. Department heads may spend additional time on interviews depending on scope.

Who needs to participate?

At minimum, the owner or CEO plus the leaders of your revenue-generating functions (sales, marketing, account management, business development). We tailor the interview list based on your org. structure during kickoff.

How is this different from a sales audit or fractional CMO engagement?

A sales audit looks at one function. A fractional CMO executes inside one function over months or years. This engagement evaluates every function that influences growth, identifies which gaps matter most, and gives your team a prioritized plan. It's diagnostic and strategic, not execution.

What if we already know what's wrong?

Most leaders have a sense of the top issue. The value sits in two places: validating whether your instinct is actually the biggest blocker, and surfacing the secondary gaps that would have stalled progress even after solving the obvious one.

What happens if we disagree with a finding?

The review session exists for exactly this conversation. We walk through our reasoning, you push back, and we adjust interpretations where your context changes the picture. The final action plan reflects that discussion and makes for a more effective way to improve your agency's growth.

Do you help with implementation afterward?

While this engagement ends with the action plan and review, there is the option for us to remain connected in an advisory capacity during execution. Some clients handle execution internally, others bring in specialists for specific workstreams. We can point you toward relevant resources in our research library, and as advisors we stay available for follow-up questions and progress check-ins to ensure your team's on the right track.

Is our information kept confidential?

Yes. Interview responses, survey data, and findings stay between your leadership team and ours. Nothing gets shared externally or used in published research without explicit permission.
